Get Outside When You Can To Take Care Of Your Mental Health Working From Home
Working from home will mean that you don’t have to commute to and from work. You probably won’t need to go out for meetings or need to walk across to the local shop to grab lunch. That means you will likely not get much outdoor time, and to work five days a week with no outdoor opportunities can be harmful to your health.
We all need a bit of sunlight and fresh air, no matter how short that may be. So try to get outside when you can, even if it’s to walk to your local park or to grab a carton of milk from your local convenience store. Connect With Friends And Family Regularly
With no colleagues, you don’t get those moments of seeing others in the corridor at work or sitting opposite you in the office. It can be surprising just how beneficial a morning chat can be to your mental wellbeing with a colleague. So replace that by connecting with friends and family on a regular basis.
Call your partner on their lunch break or text a friend when you have some downtime. These brief moments of interaction are what we need as humans, and it would be hard for you to go without any human connection for long periods of time.
Take Time Out For Exercise And Distractions
You need to have a life outside of working from home, and it’s good to have distractions that take you away from what’s going on at work. Whether you get enjoyment from exercising or going to get your nails done every few weeks, do something where you can give yourself a bit of self-care. It’s important to add a boost to your mental wellbeing every now and then.
Distractions aren’t beneficial when you’re trying to work, but it’s certainly needed when you need to stop thinking about it, and that can be hard when you’re working from home.
Keep Your Office Space Separate To Your Home Life
Working from home has its challenges as is seen above, but the most challenging of all is setting and maintaining barriers to keep your office space from taking over your home life.
Ideally, you want a separate office space but if that’s not possible, try putting it in your dining space. Avoid the living room and bedroom as these are meant to be areas to relax in.
However you choose to do this, keeping your workspace separate from your living space will help prevent burnout as well, since it will be easier for your mind to disconnect from work when you’re in your living space.
Make your mental health a priority. You’ll soon find that working from home becomes easier once you practice this positive mindset on your own mental wellbeing.
